MacrOring® Seals

Strong Seals for Large Applications

For applications currently utilizing molded large-diameter o-rings, seals produced via conventional bonding methods, or cases where optimal seal selection is unclear, Apple Rubber's MacrOring® technology presents a superior, cost-effective alternative. Developed in response to evolving market requirements, MacrOring® seals offer enhanced mechanical properties, increased dimensional capabilities, and tighter tolerance control compared to traditional slash-and-glue bonded seals.

MacrOring® Seal Technology Overview

MacrOring® seals are produced using Thermobonding, Apple Rubber's proprietary manufacturing process for large-diameter o-rings and custom sealing elements. The technology accommodates internal diameters ranging from 50.8 mm (2″) to 12,700 mm (500″) and beyond, with cross-sectional dimensions spanning 1.78 mm (0.070″) to 25.4 mm (1.0″). Custom engineered seals can be designed to meet specific performance criteria, with rapid prototyping and sample production capabilities available within a 24-hour window.

Comprehensive Quality Assurance Protocol

Quality control is intrinsic to the MacrOring® manufacturing process, with stringent process monitoring at each production stage. Our quality assurance measures include:

  • Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy for material composition verification
  • Incoming elastomeric cord material certification
  • Tensile strength evaluation and application-specific mechanical testing
  • AppleLab® Advanced Testing Laboratory for comprehensive specification validation

Cost-Efficiency Analysis

MacrOring® seals offer a cost-effective solution for both high-volume production and low-quantity specialized applications. The Thermobonding process yields additional cost benefits over traditional compression molding by eliminating the need for expensive tooling and minimizing material waste. On-demand production capabilities of MacrOring® seals facilitate rapid response times, mitigating potential supply chain disruptions and production delays.
